Moar Gut Mountains in Grossal Austria

The stunning Moar Gut was a sight for sore eyes, particularly during the winter

Conveniently located just two to three hours by car from Vienna, Munich, or Salzburg, the resort is easily accessible for those exploring Europe. For added ease, Moar Gut offers a seamless pick-up service from Salzburg, taking the stress out of transportation. Having rented a car for our travels around Germany, we opted to drive directly to Moar Gut. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a snow-dusted landscape and a quiet path leading to the resort’s car park—a subtle sign that many families choose to drive, given how accessible it is.

As we made our way from the car park to the lobby, we were greeted by a large welcome sign displaying our family name alongside others, a thoughtful touch that made us feel instantly at home. Inside the main lobby, we relaxed in the cozy lounge area, where we were served light refreshments. To our delight, we had arrived just in time for Moar Gut’s famous "Cake Buffet" hour. We couldn’t resist indulging in the mouthwatering apple strudel with homemade custard—needless to say, we enjoyed more than a few servings before making our way to our 3-bedroom Garden Suite.

The Suite

The Garden Suite at Moar Gut effortlessly blends alpine charm with modern luxury. With its solid wood furnishings and Swiss stone pine accents, the space feels warm, inviting, and perfectly attuned to its mountain surroundings. Spanning 68 m², it’s ideal for larger families seeking both comfort and style.

The suite features a private garden terrace that offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, and stepping outside into the crisp mountain air, the snow-covered landscape right at your doorstep makes it impossible to imagine being anywhere else. Inside, the suite offers a spacious living room, an open-plan bathroom with a separate washroom, and plenty of room to relax and unwind. The children’s room, equipped with a double bed and folding bunk bed, comfortably accommodates up to three kids.

These suites are designed to be a true sanctuary after a day filled with outdoor activities. Whether you're carving through powdery slopes in winter or hiking the scenic alpine trails in summer, Moar Gut provides the perfect balance of comfort and style that families crave.

Our kids bedroom (I know, I know, there’s our daughter’s freak’ish looking doll on the bed). In the corner, you’ll spot a little sofa and above it, is a pull-out mechanism that turns into a bed.

The Activities & Wellness

The activities at Moar Gut are virtually endless, which is why families often stay for a week to fully immerse themselves in everything the resort has to offer. During our winter visit, we took the opportunity to enroll our two children in their first-ever skiing lessons, conveniently located right on the resort grounds. Moar Gut partners with a local ski school to offer tailored lessons, so you can book lessons based on the number of days you're staying.

For any parents eager to introduce their kids to skiing, we highly recommend this experience. Our children spent three days learning, and by day two, they had already picked up the basics. The highlight of their ski school experience was the awards ceremony on the third day. Moar Gut’s beloved mascot, ‘Gusti’ the Chicken, made a special appearance to hand out medals to the little skiers, making the moment all the more memorable.

During our stay, we also had the chance to try horse riding around the resort—a first for us—and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. Our instructors were engaging and interactive, making the experience enjoyable and memorable. In fact, we were so inspired that we’re now considering taking riding lessons back home!

For younger guests, Moar Gut offers a wonderful range of daily activities at the Natur-Kinderhof, the resort’s kids’ club. This 1,000 m² space is a true haven, designed with sustainability in mind, featuring natural materials like wood, linen, and sheep’s wool. The club is divided into age-appropriate activity zones, with everything from climbing tunnels and slides leading into a giant ball pit, to a children’s cinema and theater where little ones can take the stage. There’s also a peaceful resting area for quieter moments. For parents looking for a little time to themselves, babysitting services are available starting from 30 months, making it easy to enjoy some adult time while knowing the kids are in great hands.

After a day of activities, it was a joy to be able to take a dip in their indoor/outdoor pool overlooking the Grossarl mountains. There’s also a natural bathing lake which is closed during the winter months. Our children couldn’t get enough of the indoor water slide and as parents, we couldn’t get enough of the expansive adult-only sauna and steam area.

The Food

Moar Gut is designed as an all-encompassing wellness retreat for families, with a strong focus on promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. Guests enjoy a full-board package, which includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner throughout their stay.

Breakfast is served buffet-style, with à la carte options available, while lunch and dinner menus change daily, offering a fresh experience each day. The quality of food here is excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed all the healthy options and of course, all of the Austrian cakes and sweets.

Families are assigned a dedicated table during their stay here, making mealtimes more relaxed and flexible. We always looked forward to the daily Moar Gut "newspaper," which was always waiting for us at our table each morning. It not only included the week’s weather forecast, but also detailed the evening’s dinner menu and daily activities—ranging from yoga sessions to scenic trails and gym workouts. It was a charming touch that kept us informed and excited for each day’s adventures.

Moar Gut food and beverage drink

I loved that every evening, the resort offered a non-alcoholic beverage and it was usually very refreshing. For example, this is a non-alcoholic gin and tonic infused with dried orange peel and rosemary sprigs

Conclusion

With a wealth of activities and spa treatments—tailored even for babies—Moar Gut offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure in a setting that is both breathtaking and luxurious. It’s no wonder this resort has become a ‘word of mouth’ favorite among parents, who eagerly recommend it to others. The property exudes understated luxury, with an alpine-inspired aesthetic that’s as Instagram-worthy as it is inviting. The staff are warm and welcoming, embodying the finest Austrian hospitality. Moar Gut is the ideal destination for families seeking a mountain retreat at a five-star property that excels in comfort, service, dining, activities, and overall atmosphere.
